Motion capture suit lets you experience the full potential of virtual reality

Although the virtual reality space is rapidly filling up with accessories to help us better interact with imaginary worlds, we still don't have an affordable option to transmit our full body movements in VR — until now.

Salto is a full body motion capture suit lined with sensors designed to seamlessly translate your real world movements into VR action
But unlike like the expensive motion capture suits we're accustomed to seeing movie stars don for special effects-laden films, the Salto costs just $700, well within the range of a VR gamer or indie filmmaker.
Created by a team based in Copenhagen, Denmark, the entry-level version of the suit comes with 19 sensors that contain components common in many smartphones, including an accelerometer, gyroscope and a magnetometer. The pricier versions of the suit setup, which include a hub and developer kit, offer anywhere from 33 on up to 132 sensors.

Once the suit is connected to the software, the wearer's movements are tracked either wirelessly via Wi-Fi or through a cable connected to the user's smartphone or computer.
To show off how the suit can work with VR gaming, the team is also offering a game calledReptilicus VR, which allows you to play the role of a giant, city-destroying lizard. Based on the demonstration video, the responsiveness of the suit is pretty good, as the wearer's legs and arms match the movements of the on-screen lizard character in real-time.

Of course, you'll probably want to use the suit to play other VR games, but those will have to wait until more game developers get their hands on the Salto developer kit. In the meantime, aside from the team's game, the suit could be a great entryway into affordable motion capture special effects and even remote presentations that benefit from a character in place of a human, like for grade school classrooms.
Having raised $113,000 as of this writing, Salto has already met its Kickstarter goal of $100,000, but you can still snag one of the suits in the next couple of days while the campaign is still going. The team expects to ship the first suits to buyers in April 2016.
